Land Stewardship Assistant
The Sisters of Charity of Nazareth are an international congregation of women religious who work for justice in solidarity with oppressed peoples, especially the economically poor and women, and care for Earth. Nazareth, home to the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth since 1822, is a sacred piece of land consisting of approximately 300 acres. Half of the campus consists of a landscaped area surrounding historic buildings. The rest of campus is forested natural areas with aquatic habitat and four former agricultural fields that are being converted to a native prairie.
The AmeriCorps member will assist the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth in living out their mission to “care for the earth” by helping to restore and steward native ecosystems at Nazareth; offering educational sessions to the congregation, residents of Nazareth Villages and broader public about the benefits and importance of native plants; and occasionally serving as a member of the SCN Disaster Relief team in response to natural disasters.
