Second Harvest Food Bank
Second Harvest Food Bank’s mission is to empower individuals to end hunger and malnutrition on the Central Coast. NDA members serve at Second Harvest in nutrition education programs, the Food for Children Programs and in the food distribution center. They will manage volunteers and engage in outreach and communication. These positions require high proficiency in English and Spanish.
Ceiba College Preparatory Academy
Ceiba College Prep is a public charter school that prepares students for college and beyond. A team of NDA members serves Ceiba by providing small group school assistance, supporting grade level initiatives, and helping with extracurricular activities such as sports, reading, art and service clubs.
Cesar Chavez Middle School – After-School Program
The after school program, “Club Chavez,” aims both to support students and offer fun opportunities for them after the regular school day. The program offers a variety of activities including homework help, computer skills, bike club, cooking class, and science workshops. The NDA member support the academic and recreational activities to help students succeed.
Moreland Notre Dame School
Moreland Notre Dame School is a K-8 Catholic school run by Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, California Province. The NDA member will provide small group and one on one support to grades 1-5 . Additionally, the NDA position supports the after school program.
Calabasas Elementary School
Calabasas Elementary School is a public school serving mostly students from low-income families who speak Spanish. The NDA member will provide regular academic assistance to small groups of students who require extra support. The NDA member will also assist incoming students in the English Language Development class and support the school’s extensive after-school program. Bilingual Spanish/English fluency preferred.
Alianza Charter School
Alianza Charter School is a K-8th grade bilingual school located in open farmland close to the coastal foothills. Most of its students come from low-income families and are English language learners. Two NDA members will aid students in gaining the bilingual skills, knowledge, and self-confidence needed for academic and social success. The NDA members will serve in both the school day and after school program.
H.A. Hyde Elementary School
H.A. Hyde Elementary is a neighborhood elementary school that serves students grades K-5. The school encourages each student’s progress and growth as well as supporting the needs of their families. The NDA member serves in both the day and after school program, providing support to small and large groups of students and assisting in enrichment activities.
Starlight Elementary School
Starlight Elementary is the largest elementary school in Pajaro Valley Unified School District. The school has focused on meeting both the academic and health/wellness goals of its students and community. The NDA member’s serve in the day and after school programs. In addition to providing reading and homework help, the member’s focus area is to support Starlight’s unique and coveted project (Starlight-Chavez Community Project) as well as working with community partners.
Landmark Elementary School
Landmark Elementary School is a K-5 Elementary School. Most of its students come from low-income families and are English language learners. The NDA member serves in the day and after school programs, and provides academic support to students and assists classroom teachers and after-school coordinators. Members also have the opportunity to initiate after school clubs such as school newspaper, yoga, guitar, arts and crafts, etc.
Pajaro Valley Shelter Services
Pajaro Valley Shelter Services is a non-profit organization that provides emergency shelter to low-income and homeless women and children, as well as transitional housing and life skills. The NDA member will support clients from their first phone call to the shelter, to check in, and through the whole program.They will help clients with their personal goals, finances, and general needs. This member must be able to speak fluently in Spanish and English.
Santa Cruz County Outdoor Science School
The mission of Santa Cruz County Outdoor Science School (SCCOSS) is to provide quality science education in the outdoors to 5th and 6th grade students. Notre Dame AmeriCorps members with SCCOSS will help lead lessons and support SCCOSS mentor-naturalists during field studies. The member will provide guidance to high school cabin leaders, help create program materials, and join student programming (large group assemblies, campfire programs, song sessions, and more).
Pajaro Valley Loaves & Fishes
Founded in 1989, Pajaro Valley Loaves & Fishes is dedicated to alleviating hunger among the working poor families, farmworkers, and elderly, disabled, and homeless individuals of the Pajaro Valley. The NDA member will provide direct service, education, and training to clients and low-income volunteers as well as outreach to potential clients, volunteers, and community partners.
