Youth Employment and Service Learning (Seattle Parks and Recreation)
Youth Employment and Service Learning programs offer after-school and summer programs that allow for youth and communities to come together. The NDA members help plan and enact workshops, service projects, and other activities that help job readiness. Members also help to connect participants to other resources.
Powerful Voices (PV) provides programs for young girls to help reach their dreams, engage their communities, and shape a better world. One NDA member aids with school-based groups at Asa Mercer and Denny International middle schools. These groups aim to promote positive girl culture and youth leadership. Another member assists with job readiness programs for high school girls. These programs focus on building skills in public speaking, project management, teamwork, and communication.
El Centro de la Raza
El Centro de la Raza is a voice and a hub for Seattle’s Latino community. NDA members serve in a college readiness program, helping students with the college application process. NDA members may also serve in an after-school program for middle school students that focuses on providing culturally relevant lessons and activities.
Treehouse is a community-based agency that partners with school systems, government agencies, caregivers, social workers, and funders to help kids in foster care make it to graduation day and beyond. The NDA member will support and train volunteers in the “Wearhouse,” to sort and prepare the donations for youth in foster care.
