CARECEN (Central American Resource Center)
The Central American Resource Center was founded by a group of Salvadoran refugees whose mission was to secure legal status for thousands of Central Americans fleeing civil war. CARECEN received 501C(3) status in 1983. Over the past 25 years, CARECEN has become the largest Central American organization in the country. The community it serves now includes families who may once have been fleeing civil war, but who have since put down roots in the U.S. and are building vibrant lives for themselves and their children.
The NDA member serves under the supervision of the Legal Director and Legal Services Coordinator. He or she is responsible for providing assistance to Legal Department clients. The NDA member educates applicants on the naturalization process, screens applicants to determine their eligibility, provides help with temporary support services, such as permanent resident card renewals, background checks, and document translation.
