In addition to the numerous direct-service opportunities available at
our sites around the country, NDMVA offers a number of indirect-service
volunteer opportunities. These members serve in administrative roles with
responsibilities ranging from volunteer recruitment to public relations.

Program Descriptions
AmeriCorps
*VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) are full-time members focusing
on behind-the-scene needs in organizations involved in eradicating poverty
in our nation's communities. *VISTAs perform a variety of tasks related
to the organization's needs, and serve 365 days working towards goals
set in the beginning of the term. Based in the National Office, *VISTAs
contribute to the sustainability and capacity of the organization as a
whole.
Children of Prisoners *VISTA
The objective of the Children of Prisoners *VISTA is to recruit mentors
for children who are the innocent victims when their parents are incarcerated.
The *VISTA is responsible for developing strategies to identify children
of incarcerated parents, reviewing and interviewing possible mentors,
matching youth with mentors, and supervising and tracking children's progress.
Communications and Development *VISTA
The *VISTA serves the communications and development needs for Notre Dame
Mission Volunteers, primarily through writing and distributing Human.Kind.,
NDMV's newsletter, researching grant and other funding sources, and planning
special events, such as the 5K Benefit Race known as "Run With the
Nuns." The *VISTA also connects with media (both local and national)
to publicize Notre Dame Mission Volunteers.
ACT Educational Coordinator *VISTA
The ACT Educational Coordinator *VISTA is responsible for the overall
organization and implementation of the ACT workshops in Maryland women’s
prison facilities. In addition, the Coordinator works with women returning
to the community after incarceration to assess their educational and training
needs, set goals, and help them access programs to meet these goals.
St. Katherine’s Volunteer Program *VISTA
The goal of the *VISTA at St. Katherine’s School is to
expand and enhance the volunteer program at the School and to strengthen
the school’s ability to meet the needs of disadvantaged students
and to involve parents and other caregivers in the education of their
children. The *VISTA achieves this by developing further volunteer opportunities
and recruiting for them, analyzing current volunteer activities, enhancing
the system of recruitment, orientation, training and recognition of volunteers,
and documenting elements of the volunteer program.
