Nativity Preparatory Academy of Rochester
Nativity Prep of Rochester is a Catholic middle school (5th to 8th grade) serving families who fall below the federal poverty line. Students come from diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds, and more than half of the students are bilingual. Volunteers will serve as teaching assistants providing one-on-one and small group class support, develop and supervise after school programs in coordination with faculty and staff, and participate in professional development.
St. Joseph’s Community Center
St. Joseph’s Community Center has a team of over 250 talented volunteer providers who offer comprehensive health care and counseling to individuals and families who lack access to health care. Volunteers will work in Health Care Access to help those in need of health care and determine best options for care, manage the Center’s Prescription Assistance Program for those without access to prescription medicine, and provide Health Education by assisting patients in understanding their health care coverage and/or their need for financial assistance from the hospital systems for Charity Care.
Bethany House is a Catholic Worker House of Hospitality that shelters homeless women and their children. This is an excellent opportunity for a woman interested in working with homeless women on issues related to physical and mental health, poverty, post-incarceration, domestic violence, substance abuse, housing, and work readiness. Volunteers would respond directly to the daily needs of the guests, as well as assist in managing the food cupboard, teach guests how to make healthy food choices and cook healthy meals, aid guests in their search for safe and affordable housing, assist guests with financial competency, and provide support to school age children with their homework.
