Application Process

Hello- we are so glad you are interested in joining Notre Dame Mission Volunteers- AmeriCorps! Below is all the information you will need to apply to our program including the application materials, important dates, and contact information for questions and further information.

Requirements

We invite applications from individuals who are over 21 and have work experience or a college education. A high school diploma is required unless the applicant is enrolled in a GED program while serving and completes his or her GED by the end of the year of service.

Applicants should also possess:

· The willingness to spend a year in the service of others.
· Good communication and interpersonal skills.
· Ability to be flexible, adaptive, and work on a team.
· U.S. citizenship or be a lawful permanent resident alien.
· Commitment to serve as a full-time volunteer for 11 months (or 5 months as a 900 hour volunteer).

Application Process

Phase 1:

Completion of the AmeriCorps application:
· You can register and fill out an application online or download the PDF version.
· You can either have 2 references fill out the reference forms through the online AmeriCorps application by including their e-mail addresses, or upload the reference form here in Word format to have them complete and send them to us by mail, fax, or as an attached e-mail.

Completion of the Notre Dame essay and self-reference form:
· You can also download this application online here.
· The essay asks that you select 3 service sites you’d like to be placed at. You can check out our service site descriptions at http://www.ndmva.org/Service_Sites/index.htm to help you make a decision about where you’d most like to serve. You can only interview at one site at a time, so please make sure that you put down your most preferred sites.

Phase 2:

Send in your application materials including:

· The AmeriCorps application and 2 references (unless you have submitted online)
· The Notre Dame essay and self-reference
· An official transcript from your last college or university or a copy of your high school diploma
· A criminal background check from your state of residence
· An optional photo of yourself

Please note: The criminal background check can be done at your local or state police department or at www.certifiedbackground.com. If the criminal background check and/or transcripts take awhile to get back to you, you are welcome to send the materials that are completed to our office and send the rest when you receive them.

Phase 3:

After you have sent in your application, you will be contacted via e-mail by recruitment coordinator Elizabeth Carroll. The recruitment coordinator will let you know which site director you will be interviewed by. She may be contacted for questions and information at 410-532-6864 x12 or ecarroll@ndmva.org.

Phase 4:

A site director will contact you by phone or e-mail and interview you by phone. The site director may also set up an interview between you and a site supervisor at the school or center where you are interested in serving. Once a decision is made between the site director and supervisor, the recruitment coordinator will send you a letter of confirmation accepting you into the program. If accepted, you will need to fill out an enclosed form agreeing to the terms and conditions of a year of service with Notre Dame- AmeriCorps and send it back to our offices. Phase 5:

After you have sent in your letter of acceptance, you will receive more information from your site director about community living, orientation, training, and other relevant information. You are now ready to begin your exciting year of service- congratulations!

Notre Dame- AmeriCorps is currently accepting applications for the 2008-2009 service year which begins in September of 2008 (or as late as October) and ends on August 1st of 2009. We will begin formal interviews in March of 2008.
